About Vanuatu Sand Drawing
Ni-Vanuatu sand drawing — *sandroing* — is a single continuous unicursal line traced with one finger across an imagined grid in raked beach sand, volcanic ash, or clay. Symmetric, meandering geometric lattices are shared across roughly 80 ni-Vanuatu language groups as memory aids, stories, and ritual records.
This design system translates that tradition: a warm raked-sand ground, a darker incised-brown line that reads as a shadowed furrow, mirror symmetry, and unbroken closed paths. Everything is flat, matte, and earthen — never cream, never synthetic.
