The Uyghur Twelve Muqam is the great oasis song-suite tradition of Xinjiang, carried from the mid-twentieth century onward on the round dap frame-drum, the long-necked rawap and the two-stringed dutar. These instruments are carved from mulberry and poplar wood and inlaid with bone in crisp white squares, triangles and lines.
This design system distills that warm oasis register into digital form — deep mulberry-brown grounds, orange-ochre and amber highlights, terracotta accents, and sparing bone-inlay cream geometry over lacquered golden-brown surfaces that carry the grain, highlight and shadow of turned wood.
