Tintype Wet Plate

The tintype is a positive photograph fixed directly onto a blackened, japanned iron plate — a one-of-a-kind object with no negative, no print, no paper. From roughly 1860 to 1900, itinerant studios and Civil War field photographers made millions of them. The image is pure grayscale with no clipped white: silvery gunmetal highlights rise out of a deep, near-black metallic ground, edged by chemical pour streaks and bromide artifacts.

This system translates that wet-plate materiality to screen — a lacquered-iron substrate, gunmetal light, warm coffee-toned tarnish, and the honest scratches, dust, and vignettes of a hand-poured plate.

锡版照片（tintype/ferrotype）是直接显影并定影在涂黑、上漆铁板上的正像——独一无二，没有底片、没有印刷、没有纸张。约 1860 至 1900 年间，流动照相馆与南北战争战地摄影师制作了数以百万计这样的影像。画面是纯灰度，没有被裁切的纯白：银灰的枪铁色高光从近乎纯黑的金属底子中浮现，边缘留着化学药水的浇流痕迹与溴化物斑迹。

本设计系统将这种湿版火棉胶的物质性带到屏幕上——上漆的铁板底子、枪铁色的光、温暖咖啡色的锈蚀，以及手工浇版留下的真实划痕、灰尘与暗角。绝不使用纸张般的奶白或纯白，因为它的本体是涂黑的铁，而非纸。
