Thai Benjarong

Benjarong — Thai for "five colours," from the Sanskrit pañca-ranga — is the royal overglaze enamel porcelain of the Thai court, painted in dense multicolour enamels that are unified and compartmentalized by gilded gold outlines. Its hallmark motifs are the thepanom (praying deity figures) and kranok flame scrollwork, often set against a rich iron-red ground packed edge to edge with gold linework. This system translates that maximal court aesthetic into a dark, ornate interface language: jewel-bright enamel fields — green, cobalt, vermilion, porcelain white — each bounded by a gilded line, tiling across a deep brick-red page. Gold is the true signature, never a surface flood but always the separating outline between saturated cells.
