About Skopje 1963 Reconstruction
An earthquake took roughly eighty percent of Skopje in July 1963. Kenzo Tange won the UN-backed competition to rebuild the centre around a ring of housing called the City Wall and a megastructural transit hub called the City Gate. What got built is bush-hammered precast concrete that reads mid-grey in daylight, striated vertically, jointed panel to panel.
This system works in that register: page the colour of cast concrete, structure and rules in a darker grey, marble white and fresco red each used once as a note. It is drawn like a working set rather than a finished monument — phase dates, dimension callouts, and unbuilt portions left as outline, because the plan was never completed.
