Riot Grrrl Zine (1991)

ProMax

Riot Grrrl zines are the visual voice of early-'90s feminist punk — hand-stapled photocopied booklets assembled from typewriter text, marker-pen scrawls, magazine clippings, and Xerox-machine distortion. Born in the Olympia and D.C. punk scenes, this design language rejects polish in favor of urgent, personal, political expression on cheap cream paper.

This system captures that raw energy: cream photocopy grounds, pitch-black toner type, hot-pink Sharpie highlights, and collaged cut-out headlines. Every surface carries photocopier grain. Every border wobbles. The aesthetic insists that anger, identity, and beauty need no design degree — just a Xerox machine and a stapler.
