Sepik Spirit Board

Sepik Spirit Board draws on the gope and kwoi boards of the Papuan Gulf and Sepik River, where carvers worked old canoe and house timber into frontal ancestral faces. A dominant red-ochre field is incised with white-lime and charcoal lines, low-relief spirals reading as eyes, nose, and navel.

The system holds to a strict three-pigment world: iron-oxide red, white clay, and charcoal black on the painted wood itself. There is no fourth color and no smooth gradient — only carved relief, weathered grain, and bilateral symmetry carried by monumental capital letterforms.

Sepik Spirit Board 取材于巴布亚湾与塞皮克河的 gope（灵板）与 kwoi 雕板。 当地匠人把退役的独木舟与房屋旧木料雕成正面祖灵脸：在浓烈的红赭石底色上， 以白灰与木炭线条勾出低浮雕的螺旋——它们既是眼、是鼻，也是肚脐，左右对称， 古拙而庄严。

整套系统只守三种天然颜料：氧化铁红、白黏土、木炭黑，全部落在被赭石漆过的 木板本身之上。没有第四种颜色，也没有顺滑的渐变——只有雕凿出的浮雕、风化的 木纹，以及碑刻般的大写字母所撑起的节奏。
