Odisha Palm-Leaf Etching

ProMax

In the craft villages of Odisha — Raghurajpur most famously — artisans cure palm leaves in turmeric, sun-dry them into supple tobacco-brown strips, and incise drawings with an iron stylus called a lekhani. Lampblack soot rubbed into the grooves reveals near-black hairline figures: Krishna epics, temple deities, and micro-inscribed Odia script at the scale of engraving, not painting.

This design system translates that incised monochrome discipline to screen — a warm mid-brown leaf ground, lampblack line-work, turmeric-gold highlights, stitched panel registers, and a single restrained vermilion accent, all drawn hairline-thin and hand-cut.
