About Nauru Phosphate Works
Eighty percent of Nauru is Topside: a field of bleached limestone pinnacles left standing after the phosphate between them was cut away. On the reef at Aiwo the cantilever loaders still reach out over the water, scaled with oxide, still bolted to their trusses.
This is not a design movement. It is what the extraction left behind on paper — survey plates, condensed signwriting, tonnage ledgers, typewritten manifests, hull stencils. Chalky grey ground, rust, one band of reef teal. Everything aligned hard left, ruled, and counted.
