Muriel Cooper ran design at MIT Press, founded the Visible Language Workshop in 1975, and carried it into the Media Lab. Her group's Information Landscapes let typography leave the page for navigable three-dimensional space.
The system reads from the 1994 TED5 demo: white grotesque on velvety black, transparent type planes stacked at varying opacity and depth of field, scale standing in for hierarchy, motion standing in for structure. The screen is emissive additive light, not subtractive ink, and is designed as such.
