Kuba Raffia Cloth (Congo)

Kuba raffia cloth is central Africa's most geometrically sophisticated textile, woven on vertical looms from raffia-palm-leaf fiber by the Kuba Kingdom of modern Democratic Republic of Congo and embellished with cut-pile, plush, and appliqué embroidery in irregular squares, parallelograms, herringbone, and asymmetric color-blocks.

Picasso, Matisse, Braque, the Bauhaus, and Paul Klee all cited Kuba cloth as ground for their abstract-geometric vocabularies. The aesthetic principle is deliberate: a perfect symmetry is incomplete, and the small irregularity is the mark of life. The palette stays strictly earth-tone — cream raffia ground, chocolate brown, rust, ochre, umber.

库巴拉菲亚布是中非最具几何复杂度的纺织传统。它来自刚果民主共和国卡赛地区的库巴王国，以拉菲亚棕榈纤维在立式织机上手织而成，再以剪绒、毛绒、贴花三种针法层叠绣制不规则方形、平行四边形、人字纹与非对称色块。

从 17 世纪 Shyaam aMbul aNgoong 王整理宫廷礼仪起，库巴织物便是王室仪式与丧葬的核心载体，并在 20 世纪经 Emil Torday 与 William Sheppard 等学者的记录走向世界。毕加索、马蒂斯、布拉克、包豪斯、保罗·克利都曾从这块布上汲取抽象几何语言。

库巴的美学准则极为明确：完美的对称是不完整的，刻意保留的微微错位与节奏跳动，才是「生气」的标志。配色严守泥土系——奶油色拉菲亚底、巧克力棕、铁锈色、赭石与煤黑色——四五色之间，已是一座完整的几何宇宙。
