Maldivian Coir (Coconut Rope)

ProMax

Maldivian coir rope is the most ocean-tested handmade cordage in the Indian Ocean. For over a millennium, women on outer atolls soaked coconut husks in lagoon mud, beat the fibers, and thigh-spun them into 2-ply rope strong enough to lash dhoni hulls that sailed to Bengal and Aden. This design system channels that sun-bleached, salt-aired material culture.

The palette grounds itself in coconut-fiber tan and whitewashed coral cream, punctuated by lagoon turquoise and deep ocean indigo. Typography draws on Cormorant's sharp serif elegance — echoing incised coral signage — while textures recall twined rope grain and sewn-plank seams. Every element says village beach, not resort lobby.
