Knights of Sidonia (2014) rendered its seed-ship world in Polygon Pictures' "Photo-Surreal" CG style — a near-colorless expanse of brushed steel corridors, scuffed hull plating, and the crushing scale of a generation ship fleeing a dead Earth. Every surface reads cold: blue-grey metal under flat utilitarian light, isolation built into the palette itself. Against that desaturated ground, the only sanctioned color is the thin cyan glow of HUD readouts and Gauna-tracking interfaces — a single accent that punctuates rather than decorates. This is a design language of restraint: hard edges, matte metal, and light used as information, not warmth.
