About Kindle

The first Kindle shipped in November 2007 with a six-inch E Ink Vizplex panel. Its paper was a matte grey with a faint green cast, its ink a dark grey rather than black, and it could draw four grey levels. Nothing glowed. Nothing scrolled.

This system keeps that discipline. One column of justified serif text sits between a thin running header and a location footer. Lists are square, selection is a bar in the margin, and the only motion is the black flash of a page turn.
