About Khasi Living Root Bridge
Villagers in the East Khasi Hills guide the aerial roots of Ficus elastica across gorges on bamboo scaffolds, then wait fifteen to thirty years while the roots fuse into a walkable span. About 72 are documented; some are roughly five centuries old and still thickening.
This system takes its values from the gorge floor, not from a travel photograph. The ground is wet stone at #262B1C, the light arrives already green, and every surface reads damp. Spans are braided and asymmetric because nothing here was drawn before it was grown.
