Kashmiri papier-mâché — naqashi — is the lacquered painting craft of the Valley, in which moulded paper-pulp objects are base-coated in deep cobalt blue, then painted with fine gold floral scrollwork and glazed to a mirror lacquer shine. The defining ground is a lacquered cobalt blue carrying the hazara (thousand-flower) and single-chinar-leaf motifs of the Persianate tradition.
This design system translates that gilt-on-lacquer density into the screen: cobalt grounds, gold hazara borders, crimson and chinar-green accents, and serif type with calligraphic DNA. Ornament is structure; the surface should always read as glossy lacquer brushed with fine gilt linework.
