About Java Tourism Poster 1930
Jan Lavies started drawing for the Dutch East Indies travel trade in 1925 — first the KPM shipping line, then the hotel association, then the airline K.N.I.L.M. His 1938 Java sheet is the reference: chrome yellow filling the top half, Borobudur cut as one flat ultramarine-violet shape, a chromed aircraft crossing it on the diagonal.
Nothing on the sheet is modelled. Every form is a contour filled with one offset ink, and the type arrives in two registers — a monoline script laid at an angle over the field, and geometric caps set wide in a solid band at the foot. This system keeps that discipline.
