About ICEHOTEL

ICEHOTEL is a building with a one-season lifespan. Every winter since 1989, sprayed snow and clear blocks from the Torne river are set over steel arches in Jukkasjärvi, carved into suites by invited artists, and left to melt back into the river in spring.

This system takes its palette from the material itself: white snice, pale translucent ice, the blue that light gathers passing through a thick block, and small accents of reindeer hide and timber. Layouts follow the vaulted corridor rather than the rectangular slab.
