About Grapus Collective
Grapus made posters for the French Communist Party, the CGT, town halls and experimental theatre for twenty-one years, and signed none of them with a personal name. Screenprinting set the vocabulary: flat opaque ink, one pull per colour, red and black on bare white sheet.
Handwriting was the argument. Marker and brush ride over the set type, photographs are blurred and overprinted, paper is torn and pasted back at an angle. Registration slips on purpose, so where red crosses black a third colour appears.
