Georgian Nikortsminda Stone-Carving is the Caucasus' most exquisite carved-stone-relief tradition — warm-honey sandstone walls of 11th-century Georgian Orthodox cathedrals covered in fine-line interlaced-vine, geometric girih-derived stars, asomtavruli inscriptional bands and lion-head corbels.
Distinct from Byzantine icon-flat and Western Romanesque, every gable, tympanum and window-frame is treated as a low-relief poem carved into the local stone. The building itself is the manuscript, glowing in low Caucasus mountain-light.
