Ammonite Fossil Plate

ProMax

An Ammonite Fossil Plate is a mid-nineteenth-century palaeontology lithograph: a spiral-chambered ammonite rendered in yellow ochre and raw sienna, hand-coloured over engraved line, washed across toned rag paper that has darkened and foxed with age. It belongs to the dawn of geological science — the world of De la Beche and the Sowerby illustration dynasty, when fossils were first drawn with strata notes and numbered captions in engraved serif.

This system carries that plate into the screen. Backgrounds are warm aged paper, never fresh cream; colour is muted earth pigment, never bright digital saturation; type is period serif, set with the quiet authority of an old reading. Cards become plate panels, dividers become ruled strata lines, and the logarithmic spiral of the ammonite is the recurring ornament.
