Fijian Magimagi Lashing

Fijian magimagi is coconut-husk coir twisted and plaited into sennit cord, then wound as lalava decorative lashing that binds the timbers of a bure house. Documented colours are natural tan and golden coir alongside a deep black drawn from soaking the fibre in mangrove mud.

The diamond lashing bands alternate natural and dyed cord over dark hardwood poles — a structural craft that is simultaneously pure geometric pattern. This system honours that woven, fibrous rhythm rather than flattening it into a blank field.

斐济的 magimagi（玛吉玛吉）是用椰壳纤维（coir）搓捻、编织而成的麻绳，再以 lalava 装饰捆扎法缠绕，把 bure 屋的木构梁柱牢牢绑结在一起。其记载的颜色为天然棕褐与金褐色的椰纤，以及将纤维浸入红树林泥沼后染成的深黑。

菱形捆扎带在深色硬木立柱上交替排列天然与染色的绳股——这是一门既是结构、又是纯粹几何纹样的手艺。本设计系统忠实于这种编织的、富有纤维感的节律，而非将其压平为一块空白的底色。沉稳厚重的衬线字体扎根于这份手工的、泥土般的材质之中。
