About Evenki Birch Bark
Evenki beresta is birch-bark work turned inside out. The papery white layer everyone pictures faces outward and is structural; the working face is the dark porous inner layer, which takes a stamp and holds it. A finished tyes container is a warm tan panel, banded where the bark changes tone, darkened where smoke has cured it.
The ornament is pressed, notched and carved — never brushed. Triangles, rectangles and stripes run parallel to the rim in regular rhythm but uneven depth, because a hand-held stamp never lands twice the same way. Seams are stitched with reindeer sinew and left visible. This system keeps all of that: bark as the page, pressure as the ornament.
