The Kihnu kört is a handwoven wool skirt whose dense vertical red stripes are threaded with fine pinstripes of black, off-white and green. Its deep madder-cochineal red signifies youth and joy; mourning skirts drop the red for black and dark-blue bands, re-adding it as grief fades.
This design system reads the cloth literally — a dark warm-red ground broken by tall vertical stripe registers and multi-colour thread accents, rendered matte like the wool itself.
