About Processing / Generative关于 Processing / Generative
Processing is the visual language of code-as-medium — the open-source generative tradition Casey Reas and Ben Fry built from MIT Media Lab's Aesthetics & Computation Group. The artwork IS the .pde file; the algorithm IS the brush.
The aesthetic lives on jet-black screens with single-pixel emission lines, Perlin flowfields, particle swarms, and recursive subdivision rendered in saturated cyan, magenta, or lime. Monospace code annotations and precise coordinates frame the work.
The Processing / Generative design system traces back to 2001 (Processing 1.0, MIT) – present (Processing 4.x, p5.js) Global / Internet, originated MIT Media Lab, Cambridge MA. Key figures behind it include Casey Reas, Ben Fry, John Maeda, and Daniel Shiffman. It belongs to the Generative art, Creative coding, and Computational design movements.
