FESPACO has been the continent's own cinema festival since 1969, and its posters are how African film speaks to African audiences. Charcoal ground, flat spot colour, a wordmark set so large it argues with the edges of the sheet.
The palette is not mood — it is the Burkinabè flag, exact: yellow-gold star, red, green. The gold carries the Étalon d'or de Yennenga, the golden stallion given to the best film. Mask forms come from Bwa plank carving, not from generic pattern.
