About Brazilian Concrete Poetry关于 Brazilian Concrete Poetry

Brazilian Concrete Poetry is the 20th century's most rigorous typographic radicalism. Founded in São Paulo in 1952 by Augusto de Campos, Décio Pignatari, and Haroldo de Campos, the Noigandres group abolished syntax and poetic line, treating words as visual objects arranged on strict geometric grids.

The 1958 *Pilot Plan for Concrete Poetry* declared the poem "an object in and by itself" — *verbivocovisual* arrangement instead of metaphor. Black ink on stark white paper, monospace typewriter fonts, single-word headlines, deep negative space. The doctrine: a single word, geometrically placed, is the whole poem.
