About Bolga Basket
A Bolga basket is woven by hand without a mould. Gurune weavers split veta vera elephant grass, twist it into two-ply strand, boil-dye it yellow and over-dye it again, then build the basket in the lap. Every mark in the finished object is structural — nothing is drawn on.
This system takes that literally. Colour arrives as bands of unequal width stacked across a straw ground, pattern appears where two dyed strands cross, and edges are chunky because a two-ply strand is chunky. Nothing is decoration applied after.
