About Boa Mistura Favela Painting
In 2012 the Madrid collective Boa Mistura went into the vielas of Vila Brasilândia with rollers and house paint. Each alley — walls, steps, doors, floor — was coated in one flat saturated colour until the building materials stopped being separate things. Then a single word went on in white heavy caps, split across a dozen houses and skewed so hard it only snaps into type from one standing point.
Amor. Doçura. Firmeza. Beleza. Orgulho. The system takes that literally: a page is one opaque field, the word is the only figure on it, and every edge is a paint cut, not a shadow. Nothing floats, nothing glows, nothing fades.
