About Bandung Tropical Art Deco
Bandung was drawn up as the next capital of the Dutch East Indies, and its architects built Art Deco in a climate that refused to cooperate with the European original. Villa Isola steps down the hillside in white stucco terraces; Savoy Homann runs a streamline curve along Jalan Asia-Afrika. Both were shaped by sun angle before style.
The system keeps that logic. Deep sunshade edges, louvre grids, bottle-green joinery against troweled white, and shadow drawn hard rather than blurred. Ornament is what the overhang leaves behind at noon, not something applied afterward.
