Armenian Khachkar Cross-Stone

ProMax

The khachkar is a carved stone stele unique to the Armenian Apostolic tradition — a cross-of-life sprouting vegetal tendrils from interlaced knotwork, framed by vine borders and donor inscriptions, carved so densely the stone reads like lace. This design system channels the weathered volcanic tuff of Noravank and Goshavank: warm mineral grey, deep undercut shadow, lichen-copper accents, and the solemn geometry of a thousand-year carved cross.

Every element references the physical reality of the khachkar yard — tuff-stone texture as page ground, carved-shadow borders on panels, small-caps inscriptional lettering, and the central-cross composition that has organized Armenian memorial art since the 9th century.
