About Zakopane Style
Stanisław Witkiewicz did not invent an ornament. He took the Górale highlander cottage — horizontal spruce and larch logs on a squared fieldstone base, steep shingle roofs, deep verandas — and built it at villa scale, then let the local carpenters carve it the way they carved their own doors and trouser seams.
The system keeps that construction logic. Everything sits on a heavy stone block, rises through banded log courses, and finishes under a shingled cap or a small gable. Ornament is structural in origin: the parzenica began as reinforcement stitching, the window slats are sun rays, the rosette is a six-petal sun.
