Y2K Aqua 2000

Aqua was Apple's audacious answer to the millennium: a user interface so glossy, so candy-bright, that Steve Jobs declared users would want to lick it. Launched with Mac OS X in March 2001, Aqua wrapped every pixel in translucent blue gradients, pill-shaped buttons, and water-droplet highlights that made screens feel like sunlit swimming pools.

This system distills that era's unapologetic optimism — pinstripe textures, jellybean window controls, genie-effect theatrics — into a modern token set. It is Y2K nostalgia at its most joyful: bright, bubbly, and gloriously skeuomorphic.
