Modern Sumi Brush applies pure black sumi ink with a single confident gesture across deliberate yohaku (余白) negative space — strictly monochrome and contemporary rather than classical. Texture lives entirely in the ink itself, graduating from warm near-black to soft gray as the loaded brush dries out.

The discipline is restraint: one dominant brushstroke, dry-brush 飞白 streaks, and a vast quiet washi ground. No color, no clutter — only ink, gradient, and silence.
