Samoan Siapo Mamanu

ProMax

Samoan siapo is barkcloth beaten from paper-mulberry (u'a) into a warm tan, felted sheet, then decorated by hand. In the mamanu method, makers paint freehand with a paogo pandanus brush, laying cocoa-brown o'a, soot-black lama, and rust-red loa into grids of fish, shells, and starburst motifs.

This design system carries the genuine aged-bark ground — never cream, never white — under dark, slightly irregular brushwork. It is a matte, felted, hand-painted aesthetic built on five natural dye tones over warm beaten bark.
