About Royal Copenhagen Musselmalet
Musselmalet has been painted by hand at Royal Copenhagen since 1775, and the method has not changed: cobalt is brushed straight onto the raw porcelain body, glazed, and fired once at 1400°C so the blue sinks into the white instead of sitting on top of it.
That single fact sets the whole system. The ground is glazed porcelain, never a tinted panel. Blue is a mark, not a field. Every line starts loaded and lifts at the end, fluting supplies the vertical rhythm, and lace piercing follows the rim rather than floating free of it.
