Nüshu 女书

ProMax

Nüshu is the only writing system in the world made by and for women — thin, slanting rhomboid characters built from dots, arcs and virgules, brushed in black ink by the women of Jiangyong, Hunan. It lived on paper fans, handkerchiefs and indigo cloth-bound "third-day books," paired with red thread and embroidery. This system keeps that intimate, hand-held register: an aged indigo ground, columns of slanting script, and red used only as a stitch.
