Nsibidi is an ideographic script of the Cross River region of southeastern Nigeria — over 500 ideograms and pictograms built from straight lines and rings by the Ekpe leopard society. Love-knot rings, journey lines, and leopard marks were cut into palm stems, painted on calabashes and bronze, and dyed in white onto indigo ukara cloth worn by initiates. This design system renders that secrecy as gold-ochre glyphs and kaolin-cream reserves glowing against a black-to-charcoal wall, with deep ukara indigo carrying the cloth's true register. The ground is always dark — a lodge wall, never a page.
