Mallsoft Plaza Muzak

ProMax

Mallsoft is the sound and image of a mall that never closes but never opens either — piped muzak looping through an atrium nobody walks through anymore. Born inside the early-2010s vaporwave scene, it takes the escalators, fountains, and food-court skylights of 1980s–90s American consumer architecture and drowns them in reverb and JPEG decay. Visually it is a photograph degraded past clarity: dusty mauve-grey tile, washed lilac-pink light, dead fluorescent flicker, and video-grain noise pulling every color toward dusk. It is nostalgia for a place that may never have existed quite like this — beautiful precisely because it is fading.
