About Łódź Textile Factory
Ogrodowa Street, Łódź, around 1900: ninety thousand square metres of hard-fired brick laid into weaving sheds, workers' tenements, a hospital, a school and an owner's palace — one company town, one material, one skyline of chimneys.
The system takes its cues from that fabric. Soot-dark brick as the page, lit brick face as primary, mortar and unbleached calico as the light, and fat-face trademark slabs shouting across bale stamps and goods ledgers. Dense, repetitive, unromantic.
