The Backrooms emerged from a single anonymous 4chan photograph in 2019 — an empty fluorescent-lit office hallway that felt impossibly wrong. It became the defining mythology of internet liminal-space culture: infinite mustard-yellow corridors, gridded ceiling lights, no humans, eerie institutional silence stretching forever.

This design system captures that uncanny institutional-bland vocabulary — saturated mustard wallpaper, carpet-beige floors, fluorescent buzz-glow — translated into a UI language that feels like navigating a place that shouldn't exist.
