About Karl Gerstner Programmes
*Programme entwerfen* is the book where Swiss typography stops being a style and becomes a parameter system. Karl Gerstner's claim is blunt: the designer's job is not to draw a solution but to write the programme that generates the whole set of solutions.
The instrument is Fritz Zwicky's morphological box — parameters down the left edge, discrete options ranged across each row, the chosen design read off the matrix. The book proves the method on itself: two columns, one typeface family, minimal changes of weight and scale, black ink on white paper.
