Jin-Roh: The Wolf Brigade (1999), written by Mamoru Oshii and directed by Hiroyuki Okiura, renders a repressive alternate Japan through wet, near-black Showa-era concrete tunnels and sewers. Its defining image is the Kerberos Panzer Cop "Protect-Gear" — matte, WWII-German-inspired armor pierced by a pair of glowing infrared-red gas-mask lenses.
The palette is deliberately drab, oppressive, and realist: cold wet concrete and feldgrau brown-grey surfaces carry a single saturated red note — the goggle glow — as the only sign of life in an otherwise desaturated, authoritarian world.
