About Alþingi Millennium 1930
In 1930 Iceland turned a thousand years of the Alþingi into a graphic programme: fifteen commemorative stamps, Scott 152–166, offset-lithographed by Elbemühl in Vienna, each saga vignette locked inside a single Norse knotwork frame cut by L. Hesshaimer.
Tryggvi Magnússon drew the festival's whole visual world — stamps, emblem, district arms, playing cards, costumes — and the logic is always the same: a rectangle, a ruled border, two inks slightly out of register, and a scene that never escapes its frame.
