Ghost in the Shell (1995) is what a machine looks like while it dreams it has a soul. Oshii's drowned New Port City is rendered as a diagnostic overlay laid over a photographed city: phosphor code-green glyph rain, cyan schematic linework, amber reticle locks, all pooling on wet black-teal glass. Everything reads engineered, surveilled, and quietly melancholic — a HUD you fell inside of, not a poster.
