Marimekko's Unikko poppy — a 26-centimetre flower repeated in flat saturated colour across fabric, walls, and everything in between — is the single most recognized Nordic textile pattern in the world. Designed by Maija Isola in 1964 as an act of creative defiance against founder Armi Ratia's ban on florals, the print turned scale itself into a statement.
This design system captures Unikko's logic: enormous flat-colour silhouettes, a palette of poppy red, cobalt blue, mustard yellow, and hot pink, all rendered without gradients or shadows. Depth comes from pattern scale and colour contrast, never from effects. It is modernist textile thinking applied to interface — architectural, saturated, and unapologetically bold.
