Farnsworth House

ProMax

Farnsworth House distills Mies van der Rohe's "less is more" into a design language: eight white-painted steel I-beams suspending a travertine plane and a floor-to-ceiling glass envelope over the Fox River floodplain. The system reads as bright off-white steel members floating in a cool, reflective steel-gray field. Every surface is orthogonal, weightless, and precisely aligned. Color is achromatic by conviction — a single warm travertine accent is the only relief in an austere tonal skin of glass, shadow, and painted steel.
