Ex Libris Bookplate

ProMax

The ex libris bookplate — Latin for "from the books of" — is a fine intaglio engraving pasted inside a book to mark ownership. The 17th–18th century armorial style rules: a coat of arms, crest, and ribbon-motto rendered in pure black line and dense crosshatching.

Here the artifact is inverted onto the engraver's own near-black plate ground, so the ivory line-work reads as relief lifted off the copper. It is fundamentally monochrome — ivory line on near-black, no colour, no soft shading, only crisp parallel-line engraving.
