Cumbia Villera

ProMax

Cumbia villera is the slum cumbia that erupted from Buenos Aires' villas miseria around 2000, soundtracked by Damas Gratis and Yerba Brava and packaged on the cheapest CDs the barrio could press. Its look is pure low-budget defiance: blown-out neon green and hot magenta clip-art slammed over a flat near-black field, bulging chrome WordArt logos, and over-flashed snapshot photography.

This system distills that proudly garish, improvised graphic language into tokens — searing neon on cheap black, condensed Impact headlines, bevel-and-emboss chrome, and maximally loud, cramped composition.
