About Medellín Library Park

Parque Biblioteca España, completed in 2007 by Colombian architect Giancarlo Mazzanti, rises from the Santo Domingo hillside above Medellín as three monolithic, faceted volumes clad in oxidized black slate — "black stones illuminated at night." Concrete-and-steel cores wrapped in locally sourced dark rock made architecture an instrument of civic dignity in a once-marginalized comuna.

This design system translates that boulder-like monumentality into interface: a near-black slate ground with a cool blue-grey oxidation cast, sharp faceted planes, and bold grotesque wayfinding that pops against the dark stone.
